My daughter has dyslexia and has been educated by Engaged Educators (Up Academy) since the fall of 2018. We are more than pleased and overjoyed at their success in teaching our child how she learns. When she first started at this school she was in grade 3 reading at a grade 1 level and did not enjoy reading at all. Now she going into grade 8 at grade level and reading is her favorite hobby.

Math was scary to her but is now one of her favorite subjects. The individualized learning program is superior. Lani’s ability to understand how each child learns differently and to teach the child that learning is a fun adventure rather than work has captured our daughter’s educational spirit. Her confidence, will, determination and imagination has grown so greatly and has opened many paths that she otherwise may not have attempted trying.

Up Academy has the educators and the philosophy that can support the kids that need it the most.

The public school system does have great teachers but they are very limited on ways to support LD’s. Based on that limited support and over crowded classes my daughter at the time in grade 2 was quickly left behind. I will never forget what one of my daughters teachers said during a parent teacher interview. She said “I only have time to teach the kids that are making eye contact with me. I don’t have time to chase the ones that aren’t.”

For me the hardest thing was watching my daughter lose her confidence after she was diagnosed with Dyslexia. She struggled to get the extra help and attention that a Dyslexic student needs. It was a scary time for us as parents. We tried different schools, public and private but it always ended with the same result. None of the educators in these institutions were equipped or educated on how to teach Dyslexic students. We were at a loss and my daughter felt defeated.  

Those days are far behind us now! Up Academy has made sure of that. Our daughter is thriving. Busting with confidence and a yearning for learning!
