What type of student does well at UP Academy?
UP Academy may be a strong fit for students who need a more personalized path, a smaller school environment, clearer structure, academic support, confidence rebuilding, or appropriate challenge and the ability to accelerate their learning.
Students do not need to arrive fully confident or perfectly motivated. They do need to be able to participate respectfully, accept support, and work toward growth over time.
Is UP Academy only for students who are struggling?
No.
Some students come to UP Academy because they need support with reading, writing, math, organization, confidence, or academic gaps. Others come because they are ready for more challenge, a different pace, or a more flexible academic pathway.
Personalized learning is not only about remediation. It is about creating a better-fitting path.
Is UP Academy a good fit for students with dyslexia?
UP Academy supports many students with dyslexia or language-based learning challenges.
Students with dyslexia often need clear instruction, structured practice, patience, and a school environment that protects confidence while building skill.
Fit is considered individually. Some students may also require additional specialized support beyond what UP Academy provides.
Does UP Academy support students on the autism spectrum?
UP Academy does not currently provide specialized autism programming.
Older students who are on the high end of the autism spectrum may be considered on a case-by-case basis. This depends on the student’s academic needs, independence, communication skills, social-emotional readiness, and ability to participate respectfully in the learning environment.
Families are encouraged to speak with the school directly so we can determine whether UP Academy may be an appropriate fit.
Is UP Academy a therapeutic school?
No.
UP Academy is an academic school. We care deeply about student well-being, but we are not a therapeutic school, clinical program, counselling centre, or behaviour intervention placement.
Some students require specialized supports beyond what UP Academy is designed to provide.
Does UP Academy accept students with behaviour challenges?
UP Academy considers each student individually.
We understand that students may arrive with frustration, discouragement, anxiety, or a difficult school history. However, our learning environment depends on respect, safety, and the ability of students to participate without regularly disrupting the learning of others.
Families should be open about behavioural concerns during the admissions process so we can make a thoughtful decision about fit.
